Fall 2009

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Happy fall from the residents and staff at West End!

School is back in session! Our GED classes and Child Care programs are filling up and our Women’s Empowerment Workshop has started a new cycle which includes workshops on housing readiness and apartment hunting and the reopening of our ceramics studio. Residents and staff alike are gearing up for the upcoming holidays and can’t wait to get our celebrations underway. Our annual Thanksgiving Feast will give residents not just a wonderful meal, but quality time with their children and neighbors.

Recently, we were very excited to host a visit from our State Assembly Member Linda Rosenthal, who was able to meet our young mothers, seniors and staff and learn more about the services provided at West End Intergenerational Residence. I’d also like to take a moment to thank the West Side Spirit community newspaper and our West Side neighbors for giving me the honor of being counted among the many inspirational Upper West Side community members recognized at the 2009 WESTY Civic Awards in October.

We’re happy to announce that we are on track to break ground on the True Colors Residence before the end of this year. Keep checking back for updates on the project! You can also sign up to receive updates from both West End and True Colors by clicking here.

As we are all too aware, this is a difficult time for a number of New Yorkers and budget cuts continue to threaten the programming necessary to the stability of our vulnerable young families and older adults. We need your help today! If you haven’t already done so, please consider making a contribution to West End before the end of the year.

Sincerely,

Colleen K. Jackson
Executive Director
